A Short History of Camping

There is a long history in regards to how camping and hiking became recreational and not merely a necessity.  During the 19th century most places were considered very rural and the industrial age had yet to begin.  During the turn of the 20th century around 1933, is when camping and hiking was more recognized as a recreational activity.  Many items we use today were invented over long periods of time as camping and hiking changed into what we see today.  Some examples would include the first sleeping bag wasn’t invented until 1801. Tents were invented in 1855 which led to the first campsite which was invented in 1861.

But as time has progressed and people have become more and more sedentary, camping and hiking is more encouraged for health reasons than ever before.  Whether you’re a novice or expert  camping and hiking can be enjoyed and appreciated by all who are seeking adventure in their lives.
